Maintenance Tips: How to Care for Your Chanderi Silk Saree

A Chanderi silk saree is not just an outfit—it’s a legacy woven with tradition from Chanderi. Known for its lightweight texture, glossy transparency, and intricate zari work, Chanderi silk requires special care to maintain its beauty for years.

If you run a Chanderi saree business or love collecting them, here is a complete care guide you can share with your customers.

1. First Wash – Always Dry Clean

Chanderi silk is delicate. For the first wash, always opt for professional dry cleaning. It helps:

  • Preserve zari work
  • Maintain fabric shine
  • Prevent color bleeding

Avoid machine washing completely.

2. Hand Wash (If Needed Later)

If you must wash at home:

  • Use cold water only
  • Add a mild liquid detergent
  • Do not soak for more than 3–4 minutes
  • Gently swirl — never rub or wring
  • Rinse carefully

🚫 Never scrub the zari borders.

3. Drying Tips

  • Do not squeeze the saree
  • Dry in shade only
  • Avoid direct sunlight (it fades colors)
  • Lay flat on a clean cotton cloth

4. Ironing Instructions

Always iron on low heat

  • Turn the saree inside out
  • Place a thin cotton cloth over it while ironing
  • Avoid direct heat on zari work

Steam iron is safer than dry iron.
